09:30- 16:30
Guildhall, High Street, Worcester
FREE ENTRY
Join Discover History as it commemorates the unique English Civil War heritage of Worcestershire. An exhibition of local heritage attractions, sites and organisations linked by the turbulent period we call the English Civil Wars: 1642- 51. The event takes place on 'Oak Apple Day' a day that was celebrated since 1660 to welcome back Britain's Monarchy after the period of Cromwell's republic. The venues iron gates will be de cked in the traditional way using Oak leaves. All carried out by Discover History to keep the lost tradition alive. This tradition was resurrected several years ago after the City Council decided to allow the tradition to disappear.

The Joint Civil War/Oak Apple Day has been chosen to allow the Discover History team to run other activities on September 3rd 2012. Watch this space.

If members feel they fit the category of 'Civil War or Oak Apple Day', do let us know and we can invite you to exhibit for free at this years event.

BEVERE GALLERY

The Graduate Show 2012

14 Graduates – 11 Universities
An exciting show where the new voices and emerging talent amongst the latest graduates will be seen for the first time in the Midlands

The Graduate Show is a significant annual event in the Gallery's calendar. This show is often the first opportunity for those selected from the last crop of graduates to exhibit in a commercial gallery.
The Gallery believes that encouraging emerging studio potters is important if they and the craft are to continue to flourish. The selection criteria are straightforward. We are looking for graduates that have developed both skills and a distinctive voice. Those selected meet these criteria as well as evoking a strong emotional response in the exhibition curators.
For the Graduate Show to be truly successful, we need to maintain a relationship with the participants, wherever practicable, and a number have gone on to show work regularly at the gallery. Jewels Williams is certainly one of them, who a year on from winning the Bevere Gallery Graduate Show Award 2011, will be displaying her new body of work developed over the past year.
Each visitor to the gallery will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite piece and one lucky voter will win a voucher for £100 to be spent in the Gallery.

Dobble demos are a winner for Wise Owl

Wise Owl Toys in Worcester has been enjoying great

success with Esdevium Game’s Dobble, due to a

groundbreaking promotional tool – a table.

Heather and Mark Stewart hit on the idea of a small

demonstration table in-store and have used it to show off

products to customers and drive sales.

It has paid of with Esdevium’s Dobble because to date

Wise Owl has sold close to 250 units – a great result from a small independent toy store.

“We love the Dobble game,” says Heather. “We play it in the shop and enjoy showing it off to the customers. The

table is a great way of letting them get their hands on the product and once they see what a fun a game like Dobble

is, they are keen to buy it.”

Steve Buckmaster, sales director at Esdevium added: “We’re really impressed with the volume of Dobble sales from

Wise Owl Toys. Dobble is ideal for demonstrations as it is quick, easy, fun and addictive for all ages. Wise Owl have

Mayor enjoys Pedicab tour

WHY walk around the city when you can ride in style?

That was the offer taken up by Worcester’s Mayor Councillor David Tibbutt who was being shown around part of the city in a three-wheeler Pedicab.

He was being entertained by members of the Worcester Tourism Association (WTA) who had invited him along to showcase some of their members’ businesses.

These included Brown’s bar and dining restaurant at South Quay, the Worcester Walks tour guides, Peditours, and the Diglis House Hotel.

WTA membership has grown to 65 members and includes cafés, bars and restaurants, entertainers and art groups.

Steve High, of Backstage Promotions and WTA development officer, said: “It was a chance for members to meet their colleagues and see what they do.

“We’re always looking for new members as well so we can all promote each other’s work and help each other out.”
